New York Interfaith Power and Light (NYIPL) is part of the growing Interfaith Power and Light (IPL) movement; a network of IPL affiliates now located in forty states. Each state’s IPL is its own entity with its own approach, organization and leadership. All IPL organizations share in the common purpose of supporting and growing the religious response to global warming.

The seeds for the IPL movement were planted in 1998 with Episcopal Power and Light — a unique effort that brought together a coalition of churches to purchase clean, renewable energy as part of their commitment to care for creation. The national office of Interfaith Power and Light grew out of these early efforts and today works toward the vision of having an IPL affiliate in every state.
